dc.description The Alma College mace was first used for the 1969 commencement. The mace is carried at the head of College processions. It is a 6 foot piece of black walnut on which have been carved symbols pertaining to Alma's history, traditions and relationships. At the top of the mace is a four sided mandorla or bud-shape surrounding a cross. Below this is a circular field on which are carved figures representing the seven original academic disciplines or liberal arts.
