Royal Campbell, Physical Education and Director of Athletics (1921-1936). Royal was a prominent athlete while at Alma College, graduating in 1910. He returned to his alma mater to coach and take responsibility for physical training for men. Royal was sometimes known as "Argyll" amongst the most colorful and successful of Alma's coaches. His six football championships (1923, 1926, 1927, 1929, 1930, and 1935) make him the most successful of the Scot grid mentors. He also piloted Alma teams to MIAA titles in baseball (1922 and 1925) and basketball (1924 and 1925). In addition, Royal also coached tennis (1922-1935) and track (1922-1935).
